How do you handle client financial data and confidentiality?

If a document is sensitive, redact identifying details before sending; cleanup and research work just as well on sanitized PDFs. Access to our systems is role-limited and logged.

How does this comply with IRC §7216, Circular 230, and my state board’s rules on client information?

§7216 governs disclosure of tax return information. You remain the preparer; any arrangement with Handled should be treated as an outside service provider under the §7216 regs, and for clients who require it, you should obtain the written consent the regulations specify before sharing return information with us. Circular 230 duties — competence, due diligence, supervision — stay with you. We are not the preparer and do not sign the return. Your state board’s confidentiality and outsourcing-disclosure requirements also remain your responsibility; send us your policy language and we’ll conform.

Who owns conflict checks and engagement scope?

Your firm. Before sending anything on a new client, run your intake and conflict process. We follow the scope you describe in plain language. If a request feels ambiguous or looks like it’s drifting, we ask one clarifying question and then deliver — no scope creep, no open-ended "discovery."

How do I know the research or workpapers are accurate?

You verify, same as with a staff accountant. We do the 90% legwork — pulling numbers, citing code sections, tying documents to workpapers — so your review time is spent on judgment, not reconstruction. A human on our team reviews every deliverable before you see it. Citations are real; we don’t hallucinate Rev. Ruls.

Is this "preparing returns"? Am I outsourcing practice?
